My Obsessions

Bites & Sips

Boifood here, hungry to get this gang on the road. I’m present to promote bigger tables, scout brunch locations, and above all continue to preach treating yourself. I consider myself privileged to be rooted in our City of Trees and am so excited about your eating and drinking with me. Let’s talk, Boise!

All eyes are on Kin, the new venture started by Kris and Remi, previous co-owner of State & Lemp. With a continued focus on local and now a new emerging location, you can’t help but feel they are pioneering what Idaho food is or will become. I, for one, am salivating over their pop up’s paired with local farms. I’ve also grown mad for huckleberries. Not only is it Idaho’s official state fruit, but they’re in season. They’re tart, which makes them a perfect addition to a sweet. I’ve been picking up mine fresh at the Albertsons on Broadway.  You should check that store out. What I’ve loved about the new location is my ability to purchase exotic fruit & veggies and local products, which lead me to my next three obsessions.

For either yourself or your gluten-free friends, tell them about Gluten-Free Galaxies Cinnamon Rolls! Few minutes in the micro or oven, and those things are like crack. I’ve been topping them with Huckleberry and treating myself weekly. All Spun Up cotton candy is a local startup that is both dye-free and delicious. I took a note from my girl Megan (who once worked for Alton Brown) and put them in S’mores. Taking a bite, I’m willing to back that the inner child in you will come to life. I’ve also been hearing non-stop good things about Happy Day Brands and recently tried their superfood oatmeals which I now can’t get enough of in the morning. I’ve been sticking to Cranberry Pumpkin seed with plans to move to Maple Pecan. While I haven’t tried their chocolate, I have a feeling it’s equally as yummy.

If you’re looking for a date night spot or taco place, I’d say Funky Taco. The live music, menu, and overall ambience are something worth trying. It’s right in the heart of Boise’s downtown, and I think it’s the perfect place to imagine what Boise is becoming. If you want to try a new culture (and support the immigrant community), I suggest trying Ishtar (Middle Eastern) or Kibroms (Ethiopian). For brunch, I have been living on the tomatillo Verde (green) bloody maries at Red Feather and the Shrimp and Grits at St. Lawrence (I always ask for pimento peppers to be added, which are everything.) If you have a big crew, I would recommend  Petit 4‘s brunch. I haven’t been, but I’m dying to try the Churro Bros truck. If you’re looking for something instaworthy, I would suggest Wanna Matchas specialty matcha drinks. Please keep your eyes peeled for course meals by Wild & Plum and Lime & a Coconut; they fill as quickly as their posted and are two of the best places to eat in Boise.
